    WHAT WE DO

We have been campaigning tirelessly to end period poverty in Wolverhampton since 2018. We distribute period products to those in need, deliver menstruation workshops to schools and community groups and work with universities to deliver robust research.

  • PERIOD POVERTY – THE FACTS

For some individuals period poverty is a fact – they simply can't afford their period each month. We aim to bring about policy change, through our work and the work of many others, to achieve free period products in schools and public places and end period stigma.

  • OUR STORY

Periods Matter, formerly The Homeless Period Wolverhampton, supports women and families in Wolverhampton with period products and other essential items. We’re run by women, for women and have real lived experience which helps us to understand what you are going through.

Period poverty affects women, girls and people who menstruate all over the world.

Everyone has the right to access menstrual products and the right to talk about menstruation without shame or stigma. Our aim is to reduce period poverty and help anyone in need to stay healthy and well. Your donations help us to get period products to those who can’t afford or access them.

It is estimated that currently over 137,000 children across the UK have missed school days due to period poverty.

Research by Plan International UK has shown that 1 in 10 girls struggle to afford period products and during the recent pandemic, this increased to 3 in 10 girls. The research also shows that 12% of girls have improvised period products using items including socks, toilet paper and other clothing.

These barriers to period products, often results in girls missing school and being placed at an educational disadvantage. As well as access to products being a barrier, our work with schools in Wolverhampton has also shown that education around periods is also lacking. Our educational workshops aim to highlight the problem of period poverty, educate girls on their bodies, periods and access to products while removing menstrual stigma and making it easier for everyone to talk about periods.
